I started out with 10 laps around my sub-division. It’s almost a perfect mile around the lake so it makes warm up a bit easier. I had perfect weather – blue skies and in the 70’s. I knew I was going to have a great workout. The sub- division is fine but I was about ready for some new scenery. So, I headed out through the neighborhood towards the local bike trials.

The scenery makes training much more pleasurable. The path runs about 2 miles through the woods to Academy Park; mostly flat but a couple of great hills to challenge even the more avid rider. I took a short break to get the shots of the creek (bellow). However, It really doesn’t do it justice.
The rest of the ride pretty much went through the residential areas of Gahanna. While the homes and yards are fantastic, they are hardly interesting enough to post in a blog… go grab a copy of Better Homes and Gardens to see it. (A message from Pelotonia Director - Tom Lennox)

We are thrilled that you are either riding in or volunteering for Pelotonia 09! For this inaugural year, we have set our standards and goals high. We are thrilled to report that we are off to an amazing start, surpassing the expectations of many, with over 700 cyclists registered! Over the last month or so, we have attracted roughly 15 new cyclists per day, which tracks to our goal of over 2,000 cyclists. We attribute this recent acceleration in cyclists to the success of rider recruitment events.

To deliver an outstanding experience and fundraising result, we need your help. If your friends, family, neighbors and associates intend to participate but haven't registered to ride yet, please remind them to do so as soon as possible. If you have formed a peloton, urge them to join your peloton so that you can share the Pelotonia experience together. Pelotonia will benefit greatly from the viral effect of having the greatest number of cyclists register sooner versus later. Also, please reach out to those you haven't contacted yet and tell them why you are passionate about Pelotonia and explain how they can become involved.

We would like to help you with your recruiting efforts. If you would like to hold an informational session with intent to recruit riders, our team is pleased to present the Pelotonia experience to your group. We are finding that these sessions are a very effective way to assemble a peloton. We are able to meet at your workplace, the Pelotonia office, or another venue. The only requirement to form a peloton is to recruit five cyclists. Please use us as a resource!

Remember, by attracting more cyclists, we will enhance our collective experience with 100% of every dollar raised funding cancer research at The Ohio State Universtiy Comprehensive Cancer Center- James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

Please forward this message to a friend or ask them to visit http://www.pelotonia.org/. Thanks for supporting Pelotonia!

Be well,

Tom Lennox Executive Director

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://joe-wulf.blogspot.com/2009/05/please-spread-word-message-from.html' title='Please spread the word! Ken and I take the kids out every year for father's Day. We had another great trip with Capt. Walt on The Trophy. It was a beautiful morning. The lake was just choppy enough to get the fish moving. At this point, all was well and Nick was feeling pretty good; as were the others. As our day pressed on, the sun came out and the wind picked up. The fishing, though slow, was still pretty good. With 6 people fishing it can be difficult to pick up a 6 fish per person limit.

Our day pressed on and as the wind picked up so did the waves. Nick was starting to look a bit peeked but hung in to fish on! This is still pretty early in the day. You can tell as we are still wearing out sweatshirts. The lake was still fairly calm but I think taking a toll on Nick's stomach. Next year we will be sure to stock up on the Dramamine a day or 2 prior. If memory serves me correctly, I believe we were starting our figure 8 approach at this point. I’m not sure if that had anything to do with his condition or not. The boat moves so slow that you don't even really know that you’re moving. If the fish are biting, you don't ever realize it.... Tell that to Nick, though.

Pelotonia Training

Training started about a month ago; up to 15 miles now.
